Durham Region is seeking applications for the Compliance Audit Committee

WHITBY, ON May 9, 2014 – The Regional Municipality of Durham is seeking applications from interested individuals to serve on its Compliance Audit Committee for the 2014 Municipal Elections.


The Compliance Audit Committee will be made up of five members, with a term that will run consecutively with that of Regional Council (Dec. 1, 2014 to Nov. 30, 2018).


Application forms are available from the Legislative Services Division or on the Region’s website. Interested individuals are requested to submit a completed application to the Regional Clerk by no later than 4:30 p.m. on Monday, May 26, 2014 at the following address:

In accordance with the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, the Region is required to establish a Compliance Audit Committee prior to Oct. 1 in a municipal election year. The committee will consider requests for compliance audits of Regional Chair candidates’ municipal election campaign finances, and determine whether the application should be granted or rejected. Should the application be granted, the committee shall appoint an auditor to conduct the compliance audit, and consider the report of the auditor within 30 days of receipt.


The following criteria will be considered when appointing committee members:

Preference will be given to individuals with experience in law, accounting, law enforcement, municipal elections and academics from related fields.
