Durham Region launches new Cycle Durham website

WHITBY, ON June 25, 2015

The Regional Municipality of Durham has officially launched the new Cycle Durham website—a tool that provides the public with user-friendly information and resources about Regional cycling initiatives, local news and cycling events, and safe cycling tips.

WHERE:

Visit Cycle Durham online at www.durham.ca/cycledurham.

WHY:

The new Cycle Durham website will promote health, environmental and traffic benefits of cycling to Durham Region residents. The website also aims to increase resident awareness and knowledge about safe cycling and driving practices, while acknowledging Durham Region’s long-term commitment to the development of cycling infrastructure and community partnerships.

NOTE:

In 2012, Durham Regional Council approved a Regional Cycling Plan, which focused on the development of a comprehensive, region-wide cycling network. In December 2014, Durham Regional Council approved a three-year cycling communications plan to provide support for current cyclists, encourage more people to cycle, and educate the public on how they can safely share the road.

The launch of the Cycle Durham website is part of an overall initiative to establish Durham Region as a bike-friendly community. It will be updated in collaboration with community partners.
