WHITBY, ON June 13, 2016

The Regional Municipality of Durham, Finance Department would like to notify residents and business owners that the 2016 Regional Budget and Services Highlights brochure will be arriving in mailboxes shortly. This brochure outlines how Regional services are funded, provides a breakdown of the outcomes and services provided from the Regional portion of the average residential property tax bill and details the benefits offered to Regional residents and businesses.

WHEN:

Beginning this week, the 2016 Budget and Services Highlights brochure will be delivered to approximately 222,000 homes and businesses in Durham Region.

WHERE:

Each mailing address within Durham Region (both residential and non-residential) should receive a copy via regular mail.

WHY:

The 2016 Budget and Services Highlights brochure outlines how Regional services are funded, and provides information about the 2016 Regional portion of the average residential property tax bill including services provided, resources, outcomes and benefits offered to Regional residents and businesses.

About 52 per cent of the average residential property tax bill (percentage varies by local municipality) is used to fund services and infrastructure provided by Durham Region, including police, social services, roads and bridges, public transit, solid waste management, health and paramedic services, planning, economic development, and more.

Residents should note that water and sewer services are not funded from property taxes and are billed on a user pay consumption basis.

NOTE:

Residents who do not receive a copy, or who wish to view the publication online, are asked to visit www.durham.ca > Departments > Finance > Property Tax information.
