Celebrate local agriculture at the Durham Farm Connections Open House

WHITBY, ON March 23, 2016

Residents are invited to attend the Durham Farm Connections Open House, an interactive way to learn about agriculture in Durham Region.

Wednesday, April 6 from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Luther Vipond Memorial Arena, 67 Winchester Rd., Brooklin

The Farm Connections Open House provides attendees with an opportunity to learn about agriculture through various stations, including meeting with local farmers and their livestock; as well as learning about dairy, beef, pork, poultry, sheep, land stewardship, honey, vegetables and crops.

This family friendly event also encourages participants to learn about the ways in which food is produced, as well as gain a better understanding of where food comes from.

Live demonstrations, including sheep-shearing, cow milking, cheese making and a chance to meet a veterinarian will take place throughout the evening.

The Durham Farm Connections program, now in its 11th year, is an agriculture education program that meets Ontario curriculum requirements focusing on Grade 3 students. It has been recognized with an Ontario Premier’s Award for Agri-food Innovation Excellence, as well as a Watershed Award from the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority (CLOCA).

Admission to the event is free, but donations of non-perishable food items will be gratefully accepted on behalf of the local food bank.
