Potential for water discolouration in Sunderland

WHITBY, ON April 06, 2017

The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department would like to advise residents and businesses in Sunderland of the potential for temporary water discolouration on April 18.

WHEN:

April 18. Discolouration may last for as long as 24 hours. If water discolouration lasts longer than 24 hours in your area, please contact the Sunderland Depot at 705-357-3140 (7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.) or 1-800-372-1104 (for after-hours emergencies).

WHERE:

All residents and businesses in Sunderland connected to the municipal water supply system.

WHY:

A new watermain is being connected to the existing water supply system to support new development. When the new watermain is connected, pressure changes in the system may disturb sediment, causing water discoloration. The water will remain safe to use, however customers may wish to store clear water prior to April 18, for drinking and cooking.

NOTE:

When water service returns to normal, customers should turn on a cold water tap only and let it run for approximately five to 10 minutes to clean out any sediment that may have accumulated in your water service.

Durham Region thanks Sunderland residents for their patience and co-operation in our efforts to improve and expand the municipal water system.
