Media invited to celebrate 10 years of tobacco control successes

WHITBY, ON May 24, 2016

Media are invited to attend as Durham Region Health Department marks World No Tobacco Day, by celebrating 10 years of tobacco control successes resulting from the Smoke-Free Ontario Act. The celebration will also include an event to acknowledge the work of local champions who have helped to promote smoke-free initiatives.

Recognition will be given to local organizations that have helped promote smoke-free initiatives throughout Durham Region, including local school boards, workplaces and community partners. This event will be open for interviews and photo opportunities. 


WHAT:           Celebrating 10 years of local Smoke-Free Ontario Act successes and honouring local champions.

WHEN:           Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at 2 p.m.

The Smoke-Free Ontario Act has greatly reduced tobacco use and lowered health risks to non-smokers in Ontario through programs, policies, laws and public education. These initiatives have helped smokers quit, protected people from exposure to second-hand smoke and encouraged young people to never start smoking.
