Paramedic Continuing Medical Education (CME) & Out-Of-Hospital Research

Continuing Medical Education (CME)

Region of Durham Paramedic Service is committed to providing continued professional development and medical education sessions to all Primary and Advanced Care Paramedics in order to enhance clinical and customer service excellence.

Currently, it is mandatory that each Advanced Care Paramedic and Primary Care Paramedic member of our team successfully complete 24 hours of Divisional Continuing Medical Education (CME) and 24 hours of Base Hospital CME annually. These programs ensure that our paramedic staff maintain and enhance their didactic knowledge, mastery of skills, emergency preparedness and technology applications in the field of out-of-hospital medical care.

Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) Training Initiative

Regional Council recognizes the clinical significance of this training opportunity to our community and was very supportive of this initiative, providing the fiscal resources to make an opportunity a reality. The ACP expansion initiative continues to be a tremendous success for both our staff and the community.

Region of Durham Paramedic Service has an agreement with Durham College/UOIT to provide opportunities, when approved by Regional Council, for current employees to challenge themselves to successfully complete an Advanced Care Paramedic training program in order to significantly enhance our out-of-hospital medical care capabilities.

Region of Durham Paramedic Service will continue to explore potential opportunities for academic degree programs focusing on clinical and administrative leadership development with Durham College/UOIT and other institutions.

Out-of-Hospital Medical Research

Region of Durham Paramedic Service remains keenly interested in participating in out-of-hospital medical research initiatives in order to identify opportunity to enhance or refine the delivery of clinical care in our community and beyond.
