  1. Eat a healthy breakfast everyday and include a piece of fruit with your breakfast.
  2. Eat one more fruit and vegetable each day: aim for 7 to 10 each day.
  3. Choose vegetables and fruit in place of foods with higher fat and calories.
  4. Try a new fruit or vegetable.
  5. Plan ahead. Try packing a healthy lunch (with vegetables and/or fruit as a snack) the night before to save you time in the morning.
  6. Keep track of how many servings of vegetables and fruit you are eating. Use Durham Region Health Department’s wallet sized Vegetable and Fruit Tracker to help you.
  7. Eat your fruit instead of drinking it. Quench your thirst with water!
  8. Stock up on fresh vegetables and fruit that don’t need a lot of work (mini carrots, apples, tomatoes, and grapes).
  9. Eat vegetables and fruit at all meals and snacks.
  10. Eat at least one dark green and one orange vegetable each day.
  11. Buy pre-cut vegetables and salad mixes for a quick and easy addition to any meal.
  12. Keep washed and cut-up vegetables in the fridge at eye-level for a quick snack.
