The need for more affordable housing in Durham Region is evidenced by:

Funding has been provided for the development of 366 units of new rental housing in Durham Region through the Canada-Ontario Affordable Housing Program and the Investments in Affordable Housing for Ontario Program.

The Investment in Affordable Housing for Ontario (2014 Extension) Program makes federal-provincial funding available as a forgivable capital loan to help stimulate the development of new rental units, including units for seniors and people with disabilities. Approved projects must provide average rents at or below 80 per cent of CMHC average market rents and must start construction within 120 days of signing a Contribution Agreement with Region of Durham.
