Energy Management

The Energy Advisory Committee is a Regional initiative to guide energy management across the Corporation. Energy is fundamental to the operation of buildings and treatment of water and wastewater. It's also an important factor in any municipality's plan to reduce its environmental impact.

In compliance with the Green Energy Act and the Ontario Regulation 397/11, the Region of Durham is required to report on its energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions annually beginning in 2013 and to develop and implement energy conservation and demand management plans starting in 2014.

Through the Community Strategic Plan, the Region of Durham is committed to reducing energy consumption; being conscience of energy use; and becoming actively involved in energy efficiency. With the rising costs of electricity, the potential impacts of climate change and increasing CO2 levels, there are substantial benefits to reduce energy consumption at home and within the Region's buildings and operations.
