Recycling programs in Apartments and Townhouses

Recycling collection for multi-residential units are centralized at convenient locations in the buildings or complexes. Like the Blue Box curbside recycling program, material is sorted into the blue "cart/bin" designated by PAPER and CONTAINERS found in the recycling areas. Some larger buildings have an additional bin for CARDBOARD and BOXBOARD. Separating the material into the right bin ensures that it can be better managed.

All recyclable material is brought to the Durham Region Material Recycling Facility (MRF) in Whitby for sorting and bailing. Learn more about the Durham Region Material Recycling Facility.

Acceptable Recyling Materials

The Region of Durham has a two-stream recycling program currently in place (containers and paper fibres). Items must be separated into the designated recycling bins.
