Durham Regional Council has confirmed the appointment of Don Beaton to the position of Commissioner of Corporate Services for The Regional Municipality of Durham. In his new role, Beaton will oversee four divisions: Legislative Services, Human Resources, Information Technology, and Legal Services.

“Durham Regional Council is pleased to appoint Don Beaton to this strategic senior position,” said Roger Anderson, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer. “Beaton has a passion for innovation and service excellence, which have been demonstrated many times throughout his career. He is also a great leader, having effectively led several teams of nationally recognized, certified and innovative employees.”

Beaton’s 23 years of service, previous work as Chief Information Officer within the Information Technology Division, as well as Director in the Finance Department, have showcased his strong leadership skills. He was the driving force behind the redevelopment of the Region’s website and the launch of the Open Data initiative. The latter allows the public to download certain data sets, free of charge, which helps to educate residents, promote innovation and inspire economic growth.

“There will always be new initiatives to explore and milestones to be reached,” said Beaton. “We are fortunate to work in a progressive organization where employees embrace innovation. It is the great work of our diverse and inclusive workforce that allows Durham Region to meet the needs of our communities.”

Beaton’s experiences and skillsets are enhanced by his Bachelor’s Degree in Administrative Studies from York University, Business Administration diploma from Durham College, and Master of Public Administration from the University of Western Ontario.
