Best Start


On behalf of Suzanne Tigwell Co-Chair, Durham Best Start Network and myself, we would like to acknowledge and thank everyone responsible for moving Durham’s Best Start plan forward.  Thank you to all members of Durham’s Best Start Network for their ongoing dedication and support to this initiative.  The child care capital expansion project would not have been possible without their valuable contributions.

Thank you to the Durham Best Start Executive representatives from the four School Boards and their staff and the 14 Child Care Operators who will be opening the new Best Start capital expansion programs.  These individuals have all worked very hard to achieve the very tight timeline of September 2006. 

In addition I would like to thank the Ministry of Children and Youth Services staff for their support and assistance particularly with licensing these projects.  Thank you to Cathy May, Debbie VanNoort and MCYS staff and also to the local Durham MCYS licensing staff, Val Rudman and Lydia MacKay for their tremendous work getting these centres licensed on time.

Finally, the following Region of Durham staff contributed greatly to the ongoing success of this initiative.

We are thrilled that there are now additional child care options available to better meet the child care needs of Durham families.

The Durham Best Start Network will continue to meet to implement the various components of Best Start.  I would also like to say thank you to Sue Hunter our Consultant who has been facilitating these meetings and our community planning sessions.
