Family Services Employee Assistance Program (FSEAP) Durham

Family Services Employee Assistance Program (FSEAP) Durham is part of a national network of Family Services agencies (NEAP) that provide EAP services to more than 5,000 corporate accounts, and more than one million employees and their families. As a Family Service Agency, sponsored by The Regional Municipality of Durham, FSEAP Durham delivers customized EAP and workplace health solutions to local companies, with employee groups ranging from 20 to 4000.

The goal of EAP services is to increase organizational effectiveness, and improve the health and well-being of employees through the provision of high-quality human and organizational development services. Confidential support is available for a broad range of concerns, which may affect the employee, his/her family and dependents, such as:

  • Job stress.
  • Trauma.
  • Workplace violence and/or conflict.
  • Substance abuse.
  • Anger.
  • Anxiety.
  • Depression.
  • Personal stress.
  • Budgeting.
  • Self-esteem.
  • Bereavement.
  • Communication.
  • Conflict resolution.
  • Extended family.
  • Separation/Divorce.
  • Abuse/Violence.
  • Child-care, behaviour and school problems.
  • Parenting.
  • Addiction.
  • Balancing work and family life.
  • Caring for elderly parents.

FSEAP Durham is a master contract holder, which means that it negotiates EAP contracts with specific employers throughout the region and province to provide counselling and a range of other EAP services. Counselling is available to individuals and dependents of employees who are employed by contracted companies through FSEAP Durham. It does not provide payroll services or insurance plans.

FSEAP Durham is accredited by the Canadian Centre for Accreditation (CCA). It meets the certification requirements of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW), and the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), as well as requirements of ISO 9001:2008 registration.

Intake and referral

  • During daytime hours, employees and their family members can call Family Services Employee Assistance Program (FSEAP) Durham’s Centralized Intake Line at 905-666-6169 (or toll-free at 1-888-757-5873) to book an appointment. Intake staff will book the client’s first appointment with a counsellor.
  • Employees and their family members can call toll-free, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year to access services and speak directly with a counsellor from anywhere in North or South America and Europe.
  • Face-to face service is available from more than 1,000 counselling locations throughout Canada.
  • Employees receive an immediate response to their request for service with an appointment for counselling offered within two business days. There are no waiting lists for service.

Number of sessions

Family Services Employee Assistance Program (FSEAP) Durham employs a short-term, solution-focused model of counselling with six sessions.

Cancelling appointments

If it is necessary to cancel an appointment, 24-hours notice is required.

Clients who need to cancel an appointment with a counsellor after daytime office hours are advised to contact their counsellor directly. Cases may be closed if there are two no-shows, two cancellations less than 24 hours, one no-show and one cancellation less than 24 hours, and/or no case activity for three months.

Fees and value-added services

Family Services Employee Assistance Programs (fseap) There is no fee paid directly by the client for these services. Family Services Employee Assistance Program (FSEAP) Durham contracts with employers to provide these services as part of an employee benefit package.
