Emergency shelters provide temporary shelter for individuals and families who have lost their housing and have no other place to stay.
Residents may stay in dormitory or private rooms with shared facilities, such as washrooms, laundry and lounge areas. In some shelters, residents have access to cooking facilities and can prepare their own meals. In others, meals are provided.
The Region of Durham provides funding to cover the room and board costs for eligible shelter residents. These costs are paid directly to shelter service providers.
There are 93 emergency shelter beds available to individuals and families in crisis through the following agencies.
