Housing Outreach Workers

Housing outreach workers are available to assist households with maintaining their current tenancies (see section on eviction prevention programs) and to assist people who are currently homeless (or at risk of becoming homeless) to secure permanent housing. In addition to providing contacts with landlords, these workers can also assist with:

  • Negotiating with a prospective landlord.
  • Providing assistance for housing-related transportation.
  • Making referrals to other services (e.g. credit counselling or Ontario Works).
  • Working with a household on budgeting, or how to do an effective housing search.

There are housing outreach workers at Cornerstone, Denise House, the Muslim Welfare Home and Durham Youth Housing and Support Services to assist residents in those programs to find permanent housing. As well, there are housing outreach workers serving residents living in the community.

The community-based workers also support families using the Emergency Motel Program.
