
Social housing was previously funded and administered by the provincial and federal governments. January 1, 1998, costs were downloaded by the province to service managers like the Region of Durham.
The Housing Services Division is responsible for the administration of social housing programs, property management functions for the Durham Regional Local Housing Corporation and the development of new affordable housing initiatives. It also oversees the delivery of hostel services and a range of programs to address homelessness in Durham Region.
