Traffic Division puts a STOP to inefficient traffic signals

traffic signalThe LED Conversion Program is an important initiative to sustained positive change for drivers, taxpayers and the environment. Light emitting diode (LED) signals consume 80 per cent less energy than conventional incandescent bulbs. The lower wattages in the LED lights produce less heat and reduced wear on peripheral traffic controller components. LEDs do not require re-lamping, have less random failures and have a life expectancy of approximately 10 years. They are also more visible under all driving conditions, including rain and fog, allowing motorists continued visibility of the signal indication. The retrofitting of almost 450 intersections was completed in 2010 and 52 per cent energy reduction is already confirmed on hydro billing.
