Sanitary Sewage System
Water that is flushed down the toilet or emptied down the drain flows out of your home through a network of pipes known as the sanitary sewer system. The wastewater and sewage is fed by gravity from your home to the larger trunk lines and from there to one of the Regions 11 sewage treatment plants.
Sanitary sewage is collected from customers through a system of sanitary sewers and sewage pumping stations. Sanitary sewage is treated at a Sewage Treatment Plant in accordance with the Ministry of the Environment requirements that regulate the quality of the effluent discharged into receiving waters.
If we stretched out our mains in a straight line starting from Whitby, it would reach approximately all the way to Thunder Bay.
