Video Tip No. 2 - What materials go into the Blue Box?
Ever been confused about what kind of materials you can put into your Blue Box to be recycled? Let’s find out what containers recyclable by taking a trip to Durham Region’s Materials Recovery Facility in Whitby.
What you see is recyclable materials collected in Durham Region in only one day.
High-tech equipment at the MRF sorts recyclables by materials then conveys each material to be baled and shipped to end recyclers for remanufacture. But only the right materials will be recycled.
Let’s look at plastics. Durham only accepts plastic containers that have a twist-off or pull off lid. If the container has a hinged lid or no lid at all, reuse it or place it in your garbage.
Check your Durham Region waste management calendar for more information on what is acceptable in Durham Region’s Blue Box recycling program.
Remember, waste diversion starts with you.
Your efforts today will help to preserve our environment for tomorrow.
