Celebrate National Public Works Week!

National Public Works Week

The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department would like to invite residents to celebrate National Public Works Week (NPWW) from May 21 to 28.

NPWW is an annual event to recognize and celebrate public works professionals across the country. Throughout the week, the Works Department supports a variety of initiatives to raise awareness and understanding of the impact that public works have on the daily lives of people across North America. NPWW is a fun way to show the community what we do!

FREE open house on May 27 in Whitby

The Region of Durham’s Works Department has been celebrating NPWW annually since the year 2000 and this year's FREE event is scheduled for Saturday, May 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Join us at the Traffic Operations Centre (101 Consumers Drive, Whitby) to see the BIG-screen traffic monitor where Durham's traffic signals are controlled in real time. Learn about our state-of-the-art traffic signal control system, as well as see first-hand how road signs are made. Staff from various areas of the Works Department, such as Waste Management and Technical Support, will be on hand to educate residents about our programs and services. There will be a live broadcast by our local radio station and a face painter for the kids (kids at heart, too)!

Can't make it in person? Learn more about the Works Department by taking a virtual tour of some of our facilities:

The Works Department provides our communities with safe roads, clean drinking water, recycling, composting and waste disposal programs, as well as many more operations that impact our daily lives. Join us at our National Public Works Week open house to find out how we work for you.
