Durham Regional Council has approved the 2022 to 2040 Long-term Waste Management Plan (Waste Plan) and first Action Plan (2022 to 2026). Developed in consultation with stakeholders, the approved Waste Plan is a roadmap that describes the Region’s Guiding Principles, Vision and Objectives for waste management over the nextension 20 years.

Durham York Energy Centre Environmental Screening Report available for public review

In response to population growth, the Regional Municipalities of Durham and York have submitted an Environmental Screening Report to the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks, requesting an amendment to the Environmental Compliance Approval (ECA) for the Durham York Energy Centre (DYEC) to process an additional 20,000 tonnes of garbage, for an annual total of 160,000 tonnes of garbage as opposed to the 140,000 tonnes currently allowed to be processed. A virtual Public Information Centre (PIC) is being held now until February 11 to provide an update on the amendment to the Newcastle Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP) Class Environmental Assessment (EA). Public consultation is required on the proposed solutions to provide additional sanitary sewage treatment plant capacity at the Newcastle WPCP.

If you live in the Municipality of Clarington, or the townships of Brock, Scugog or Uxbridge, remember to book your natural Christmas tree collection by December 27 at 4 p.m. to receive curbside collection of your tree in the new year.
Residents can book a Christmas tree pick-up at their address through:
