Whitby, Ontario - Durham Region Health Department has started West Nile virus (WNV) surveillance and control activities for the 2021 season. Ongoing surveillance for WNV involves a number of activities to monitor for the virus across the Region including, implementing a weekly adult mosquito-trapping program, a larval mosquito surveillance program and a larviciding program involving regional catch basins, as well as identifying stagnant water sites where mosquitoes could breed.

Starting May 17 at 9 p.m., eligible individuals will be able to book vaccine appointments for this hot spot area at the Ontario Tech Ice Campus clinic. Whitby, Ontario - As outlined by the province, Durham Region Health Department is expanding eligibility for COVID-19 vaccine to include essential workers who cannot work from home – Group 2, effective May 7. Area residents who are part of this eligibility group are now able to book appointments at any community mass immunization clinic located in all Durham Region municipalities.
