The Region of Durham has teamed up with the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA), as well as York Region, to monitor and look at what shapes Lake Ontario’s water quality in west Durham.

Levels of toxins exceed Health Canada recommended guidelines
Whitby, Ontario, August 14, 2020 – Durham Region Health Department has closed Kinsmen Beach in Lake Scugog due to elevated levels of toxins from blue-green algae that is present in the water. Test results from water samples taken on Aug. 5 by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks, indicate that toxins are at levels that exceed Health Canada’s recommended guidelines for recreational water.

Whitby, Ontario – Durham Region Health Department has received notification of more adult mosquitoes that have tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV), with positive mosquitoes now reported from three trap sites.

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is inviting the public to review and comment on the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment Study to improve Pringle Creek Bridge on Brock Street South (Regional Road 46) in the Town of Whitby.
When: August 13 to September 26.
