Pilot Public Art Project

Visit the newly installed public art outside Regional Headquarters! 

The installation showcases artistic interpretations of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility by students from the Fine Arts Program at Durham College.

Public art doesn’t just create beautiful spaces, it connects people in a meaningful way by helping us understand different perspectives and experiences. The Region of Durham is partnering with Durham College to bring more public art to the community through a pilot public art project launching in Winter 2022.

The Votes Are In!

Thank you to everyone who participated in the survey and for sharing their input on this Pilot Public Art Project.

The 3 top ranked themes were:

1. Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility
2. Diverse cultural experiences/celebrations
3. Indigenous awareness/education

Results were brought back to our partners at Durham College, to determine a final decision. The theme that was chosen was the top ranked choice: Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility!

This theme was chosen as it allows for artist flexibility, exploration, and learning.

We received helpful feedback from the community including new ideas for themes and other considerations for hosting a public art project.

We appreciate the community’s input and will consider this in future planning of similar projects.
