Extended Health and Dental Benefits
The Region of Durham provides a comprehensive and competitive benefits package for its regular full-time employees. Full-time employees receive an Extended Health Benefits and Dental plan which includes coverage for prescription medications, vision care, semi-private hospital, physiotherapy, psychology, chiropractor, orthotics, ambulance service, and medical expenses while traveling outside of Ontario.
Employees can enrol eligible dependents (spouse and/or children) in the Extended Health Benefits and Dental plans. Full-time employees are also enrolled in Life Insurance and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance and long term disability benefits (LTD). These benefits are 100% employer paid.
Employees also have the option of purchasing additional life and AD&D coverage at very reasonable rates.
The Region of Durham also provides mandatory enrolment in the OMERS pension plan for all regular full-time employees. OMERS is a multi-employer defined benefit pension plan for over 900 employers in Ontario's municipal sector. OMERS members and employers pay equal contributions into the plan. Contribution rates are competitive within the public sector.
OMERS is one of Canada's largest pension plans, serving over 380,000 members. OMERS provides its members with a guaranteed pension benefit, early retirement options, full inflation protection, disability benefits should a member become disabled, survivor benefits and the choice of taking your pension benefits to any of over 900 employers across the province of Ontario.
