Durham Region to distribute 2017 Budget and Services Highlights brochure
Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham, Finance Department would like to notify residents and business owners that the 2017 Regional Budget and Services Highlights brochure will be arriving in mailboxes shortly. This brochure outlines how Regional services are funded and provides information on the Regional portion of the average residential property tax bill.
When: Beginning this week, the 2017 Budget and Services Highlights brochure will be delivered to approximately 220,000 homes and businesses in Durham Region.
Where: Each mailing address within Durham Region (both residential and non-residential) should receive a copy via regular mail.
Why: The 2017 Budget and Services Highlights brochure outlines how Regional services are funded and provides information about the 2017 Regional portion of the average residential property tax bill.
About 52 per cent of the average residential property tax bill (percentage varies by local municipality) is used to fund services and infrastructure provided by Durham Region, including police, social services, roads and bridges, public transit, solid waste management, health and emergency medical services, planning, economic development and more.
Residents should note that water and sewer services are not funded by property taxes and are billed on a user pay, consumption basis.
