Durham Region to host the 2019 Ontario Parasport Games
Whitby, Ontario – Today, Durham Region celebrated the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport’s recent announcement that the region will host the 2019 Ontario Parasport Games, during an event at the Abilities Centre in Whitby.
“Durham Region is honoured to have been selected as host of the 2019 Ontario Parasport Games. We are home to a diverse and passionate community that has been instrumental in paving the way toward making Durham Region an inclusive community. Together we will embrace this opportunity to bring the games to life,” said Roger Anderson, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer.
The 2019 Ontario Parasport Games will attract more than 260 athletes, competing in approximately 10 sports over the three-day event. It is estimated that the Ontario Parasport Games will help generate nearly $500,000 in economic activity in the region. The Region of Durham’s Sport Durham program will be working closely with the Games Organizing Committee to deliver a successful 2019 Ontario Parasport Games.
“For more than a decade, Durham Region has worked to achieve an inclusive and accessible environment; one that preserves dignity and independence for individuals of all abilities,” said Brian Bridgeman, Commissioner of Planning and Economic Development. “As a result of this strong leadership, Sport Durham–in partnership with other community organizations and volunteers–has done a great job in bringing the 2019 Ontario Parasport Games to Durham.”
