Oral Health

Dental screening is available to all children in Durham Region from birth up to and including age 17 years.

We screen to provide statistics to the MOHLTC regarding the oral health status of Ontario children. This helps us to establish programs to ensure that all children can receive the care they require.

Dental screening is a quick visual inspection by a Registered Dental Hygienist to identify obvious dental conditions that are causing pain or will cause pain imminently.

Screening is done annually in elementary schools. Parents are notified if their child has an urgent dental problem or if preventive services are recommended.

Parents of pre-school children who are not screened at school, may request a dental screening through the Oral Health Division. Appointments can be arranged by contacting our office at 905-723-1365.
