Canada 150

It is an extra special year. Canada is celebrating its 150th birthday. What better way to celebrate then to highlight the importance of physical activity and the diversity of sport, weather, activity and fun of course!

Durham Region is proud to highlight activities that will be occurring throughout our great Region and across municipalities for the duration of the year. We also have a few ideas that you may like. Check out durham150.ca.

We want you to have the time of your life!

Parents get party ready!

Small changes do make a difference. If you weren’t active before, now is a great time to start. It is Canada’s 150th birthday!

  • Family playing soccerCheck out our free activities page to see what’s happening near you.
  • Outdoor play never goes out of style. Try new activities with your young children and/or challenge your teen to be a great role model. Role modelling makes the difference. Children learn by watching what you do. Show your child how being active makes a difference to how you feel. Being active also builds strong bones and minimizes the impact of stress.
  • Turn off the screen and try a new sport. There is plenty to do all year round: rain, snow, sun or sleet.
  • Make a pledge to be more active and stick to it! Check out our physical activity tracker.
  • Are you going to challenge yourself this year? Make room for a Canada 150 birthday resolution. Check out ParticipACTION.
  • Create new memories in this historical year. Explore trails. Did you know that Uxbridge is the trail capital of the world?Couple walking
  • Walking is truly the activity of a lifetime! Durham Region’s natural landscape, which includes trails and waterfront, hidden creeks and pedestrian-friendly community is a lovely setting for a walk.
  • Walking is a low impact exercise that is ideal for all populations. Show your local trail some love, and get out and explore! #trailloveinDurham
