Family swimmingThere are a ton of active low cost/no cost activities happening right around you! Here are some ideas of activities you and your family can look into:

  • Free public skating or public swimming days at your local recreation center
  • Community parades or festivals where you can jump, cheer and march along to the bands
  • Indoor or outdoor walking clubs and running programs
  • Local community recreation centres for free programs that allow you to try a new sport or activity
  • Outdoor skateboarding or scooter parks
  • Local splash pads for the warmer months
  • Mobile summer camp drop-in or summer playground programs typically hosted in local parks and green spaces
  • Events in your community around special days like New Year’s, Family Day in February, March Break, Move for Health Day in May, and Sports Day in Canada in November.
  • Visit Durham’s Healthy Neighbourhoods webpage, type in your address and use the points of interest to search for community or recreation facilities, recreation parks, or regional trails near you!

Recreation Subsidy in Durham Region
