Durham Region recognized for excellent promotional efforts at 2014 EDCO Awards of Excellence

WHITBY, ON February 24, 2015

The Regional Municipality of Durham, Planning and Economic Development Department, has received an honourable mention award from the Economic Development Council of Ontario (EDCO), for outstanding promotion of the sport tourism branding campaign–Sport Durham.

“Congratulations to staff on receiving this great honour,” said Kathy Weiss, Director of Economic Development and Tourism. “This recognition highlights the dedication and innovation that has been demonstrated while promoting the sport tourism sector and our vibrant local economy here in Durham Region.”

Sport Durham is a pilot program that was approved by Regional Council in June 2013, and continues to provide a full range of services and positive experiences for Durham Region residents and visitors.

“The Sport Durham logo and branding materials have played an instrumental role in introducing the exciting sport tourism sector to the Durham community,” said Kerri King, Tourism Manager. “Durham Region is truly a premier sport tourism destination and through this thoughtful branding, we have been able to successfully communicate how this sector enhances our local economy to both the public and our stakeholders.”

EDCO is an independent, non-profit, incorporated association of persons engaged in economic development that has been operating since 1957. This award was presented to staff at the 58th EDCO Conference and Showcase Awards of Excellence Banquet, which was held in Hamilton, Ont. on Feb. 12.
