Durham Region recycles election signs

WHITBY, ON November 14, 2014

The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department would like to remind election candidates that temporary signs, including election signs, can be dropped off for recycling at the Region’s waste management facilities (WMF) after they have served their intended purpose. Acceptable signs include all temporary signs made from corrugated plastic, plastic film or paperboard (including election signs and real estate signs). Wooden stakes and wire mounts are also accepted.

All kinds of temporary signs, including election signs, can be dropped off year-round at the Region’s WMFs during regular hours of operation (Tuesday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.).

Durham Region’s Sign Recycling Program provides the opportunity to recycle dedicated loads of signs for free to keep these signs out of landfill. If the load is mixed with other waste, regular disposal fees will apply. All signs collected are recycled locally.

Candidates who may run for election again in the future are encouraged to retain their signs for reuse.
