Durham Agricultural Advisory Committee (DAAC)

2003 Farm Tour

On September 11, 2003 DAAC hosted its first Farm Tour, providing community decision makers with a first hand look at Durham’s vital agricultural industry, and a unique perspective on issues affecting today’s farmers.

The tour focused on five farms, where each host facilitated an in-depth discussion of their operations and their perspectives on the challenges to farming in Durham. The farms included:

  • Ted Watson Farms – “Farming in the Shadow of Urban Development”

  • Link Greenhouses – “A Story of High Tech Hydroponics”

  • Terwidlen Farms – “Diversity in Farming”

  • Ceresmore Farms – “Changes in Agriculture . . . Past, Present and Future”

  • Walnut Valley Farm – “When Buyers Look for Value-added”

The farming industry is a big part of the Region’s economy. Building awareness and knowledge around this industry is a key component of the DAAC mandate.
