Directive # 2002 - 12

The policies, procedures and Service Manager Requirements in this Directive are to be implemented by all Housing Providers in the Region of Durham included under the provisions of the Social Housing Reform Act and its associated Regulations.

RGI Increases of less than $10

Under the Social Housing Reform Act, the Region of Durham has the authority to determine whether or not a rent geared-to-income (RGI) increase of less than $10 should be implemented.

All decreases in the amount of RGI payable must be implemented.

Housing providers may review the amount of RGI payable at the time of the annual review or whenever a change in income is reported.

Action Required

All rent increases resulting from re-determination of RGI at the time of the annual review are to be implemented.

Housing providers will send notification of the increase to the household and implement the increase on the first day of the second month following this notice of the increase.

Changes that are reported outside of the annual review and that result in an increase in rent that is less than $10 will not be implemented until the time of the annual review. Because the RGI amount is not changed, tenant notification is not required.
