Official Contest Rules and Regulations for Durham Tourism Giveaways

Eligibility

External promotions are open to all residents of Canada and the United States age 18 years and older, with the exception of elected officials and employees of The Regional Municipality of Durham, and any of the sponsoring companies or affiliated companies. This includes their immediate families, cohabitants, agents or contractors. The contest is void where prohibited or restricted by law. The Regional Municipality of Durham reserves the right to cancel the contest or modify these rules at its discretion. Decisions of The Regional Municipality of Durham will be final. No purchase is necessary. Any or all disputes will be resolved in the appropriate courts in The Regional Municipality of Durham and subject to provincial laws. Should there be a conflict between the laws of the Province of Ontario and any other laws, the conflict will be resolved in favour of the laws of the Province of Ontario. The social media promotion, contest, giveaway or sweepstake is subject to all Federal, Provincial and Municipal laws.

Contest Details

Entrants may submit an entry by subscribing to the Durham Tourism Visitor E-newsletter on September 19, 2026, between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. Entrants will be automatically entered to win one 18x24 canvas, painted live by Santiago Studios at the 2026 Convergence Music + Art Festival. No purchase is required. One winner will be selected. There is a total of one prize to be won. One entry per entrant only. The contest closes on September 19 at 8 p.m. The winner will be selected at random from all eligible entries received before the deadline. The draw will take place between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. on September 19, 2026. The winner will be contacted via e-mail.

The odds of winning are dependent on the number of eligible entries received. Following the deadline, the selected entrants will be notified by Region staff by the social media account provided by the entrant. Selected entrants must correctly answer a mathematical skill-testing question to become an official winner and claim the prize. The winner will be contacted by 4 p.m. on September 25. Prizes must be claimed via email (if applicable) or at Durham Region Headquarters at 605 Rossland Road East, Whitby, Ontario by October 2, 2026.

Entries

Entries may vary dependent on the promotion and will be clearly outlined in the social media post. They may include username tags, likes on an image or video, follows or likes on a page or profile, use of a promotional hashtag, or digital photographs submitted using a username tag or promotional hashtag.

The Regional Municipality of Durham holds the right to disqualify entries that in its sole and absolute discretion it deems inappropriate content. Entries disqualified for inappropriate or offensive content will disqualify the entrant from further participation in the contest.

Entries received before September 19 at 10 a.m. or after September 19 at 8 p.m. are ineligible and will be disqualified.

Judging and Publication

All entries must be submitted to The Regional Municipality of Durham by September 19 at 8 p.m. in order to be eligible for participation. The winner will be announced by 4 p.m. on September 25. Following the deadline, the winner will be notified via e-mail.

One winner will be chosen based on random selection. The winner's name may be published across The Regional Municipality of Durham’s social media channels and other marketing publications. The Regional Municipality of Durham reserves the non-exclusive right to publish any entry and/or use any entry in promotional and advertising materials. The Region reserves the right to request promotional rights from the entrant for the purposes of additional marketing.

Responsibility

The Regional Municipality of Durham cannot be held responsible for entries that are lost, damaged, or delayed during transportation. The Regional Municipality of Durham is not responsible for any failure of the social media platform during this contest. Nor is it responsible for any problems or technical malfunctions of computer online systems, servers, access providers, computer equipment, software or any email, online or internet entry lost due to technical problems or traffic congestion on the internet or social media platform or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to an entrant’s or any other person’s computer or property related to or resulting from playing or downloading any material in the promotion.

Copyright Notice

With regard to any photograph(s) submitted to a social media promotion, the entrant, or the owner of copyright in the photograph, retains copyright. By submitting any photograph to a social media promotion, the entrant grants (or warrant that the owner of such materials expressly grants) The Regional Municipality of Durham a royalty-free, worldwide, perpetual, non-exclusive license to display, distribute, reproduce, and create derivative works of the entries, in whole or in part, in any media now existing or subsequently developed, for any purpose, including, but not limited to advertising and promotional materials including its social media platforms and website, exhibition, and commercial products, including but not limited to The Regional Municipality of Durham publications. The Regional Municipality of Durham will not be required to pay any additional consideration or seek any additional approval in connection with such uses. Winning entrants are required to sign a release containing the above conditions.
