TikToker Keith Lee has sent Canadians into a frenzy of excitement over his recent trip to Toronto. He asked his audience for their recommendations for authentic mom-and-pop shops that he should check out during his family trip. The second stop on Lee’s Toronto Food Tour was just east of the city at Biscuits to Baskets in Ajax.

If you want to check out this true hidden gem for yourself, here are the tips and tricks you need to know to ensure a successful visit to this now viral café.

Check their Instagram for up to date hours as they may be making ongoing changes to adjust to new business levels!

Getting To Ajax

GO Transit operates trains from Union Station to the Ajax GO Station at a regular frequency. The train ride from the city to Ajax is less than one hour and Biscuits to Baskets is a 24-minute walk or five-minute Uber from the station.

If you are travelling by car, please remember that the café is in a residential area and there is not street parking available. We recommend parking down the road at Cedar Park and stretching your legs with the nine-minute walk toward delicious fresh coffee and treats.

What To Try

Keith thought the Korean Sponge Toffee Latte was “real good.” His family also tried a cake flight box, which included four cakes: carrot, banana, chocolate, and Biscoff.

We recommend trying the viral Cookie Croissant, a flaky pastry stuffed and topped with chocolate chip cookie dough. The coffee portion of this business, Backyard Brewed Espresso Bar, has a coffee menu with mind-blowing flavours and the Iced Baklava Latte is a must try. Don’t leave without grabbing one of their gourmet caramel apples! Durham is home to the Apple Capital of Canada, after all.

Places To Picnic

There are a couple of parks in the neighbourhood with picnic benches if you need somewhere to sit and dig in right away. Our suggestion would be to head down to the lake and savour your haul next to the water at Ajax Waterfront Park.

While In Ajax...

Dedicate your day to finding all the delicious spots Ajax has to offer. Although Keith didn’t make it to these foodie favourites, you can add them to your agenda and be the judge yourself!

Patty Gyal – Authentic Jamaican patty shop owned by two sisters. Get your patty stuffed or add plantain to it.

Sea Salt Seafood Cafe – A family run café with a love for Southern style cuisine. We recommend the seafood boil or buttery lobster rolls.

Goldie’s Cafe and Eatery – This eatery offers mimosa or latte tasting flights and you can get your soup served in a giant bread bowl.

Angelique’s – If you missed breakfast, Angelique’s larger-than-life portions are sure to hit the spot. Insider tip: if you order two eggs, you always get three.

Pizza Pino’s Restaurant & Tavern – A pizza-lover's paradise where the toppings are plenty, the cheese is thick, and you can choose between thin and thick crust. Halal pepperoni and chicken are available too!
