Collage of images including a rack in a record store with the new Charli XCX album "Brat" in front of a record store and the words "Durham Tourism" on a lime green background to look like the "Brat" album cover

Brat summer has taken over the internet and businesses across Durham Region have embraced this viral trend. This aesthetic, inspired by Charli XCX’s latest album, is made up of Y2K fashion and a carefree attitude. Summer is the perfect season to let loose and have some fun. Even if lime green (...or is it chartreuse?) isn’t your colour, there are lots of ways to be brat.

Pick Up Some New Tunes

Shop the stacks at Kops Records to find the perfect summer soundtrack. They have all the favourite pop girlies and can help you discover the next song that will be stuck in your mind.

Be A Little Shady

Your next stop is a few doors down at Fashion Rebel, where you’ll find vintage and new tees, studded collars, boots, and sunnies to shade your eyes.

Ultimate Accessories

Shop Oshawa-made Night Moves Atelier for the most brat accessories. From press-on nails to hair clips, they have it all.

Go To The Roller Skating Rink

The SUSO Skate Co team has transformed a space in the Oshawa Centre into the roller skating rink of our dreams. They open August 16, but you can book now.

Dance The Night Away

Sometimes a brat needs to put their hands up and dance. BOND|ST’s Two Two Two (formerly the beloved Dungeon – home to the OG brats) hosts concerts and events including Indie Sleaze Nights.

But while many of the core brat necessities may be found in Oshawa, all of Durham offers very brat destinations.

If an evening of yee-haw is more your style, Trail Hub puts on Country Music Nights. Often taking the line dancing outside, you can shine up your cowboy boots and get to boot scootin’ boogie-ing.

Hit The Beach

Pack a picnic and head to the beach for a day of recharging in the sunshine. Darlington Provincial Park has a sandy beach on Lake Ontario and offers day use rates.

Start Your Day With A Cup Of Black Coffee

Caffeine is a key part of the daily routine for many people, but the ultimate brat coffee order is a simple black coffee. Get yours at Bean and Basket in Ajax or Canter Coffee in Sunderland.

Say Yes To Brunch Mimosas

Look no further than Mansion Kitchen + Bar for the ultimate brunch experience. Their menu has all of the brunch classics, but the true stand out is their beverage offering. For the ultimate princess streak, order a mimosa flight or cocktail tower for the table. Brunch is available on Sundays, and they take reservations.

Rewind By Sporting A Vintage Tee

Durham Region is home to some exceptional vintage clothing stores. From Downtown Whitby’s Vintage 905 to Port Perry’s Adawegamig, there is something for every brat and you may even find some vintage Von Dutch.

Apples Are Going Viral

If you’ve opened TikTok lately, it’s likely you’ve seen the viral dance routine to Charlie XCX’s hit song “Apples”. But did you know that Durham is home to the Apple Capital of Canada? Visit one of Durham’s many cideries including Two Blokes Cider that hosted North Durham Pride’s After Party earlier this summer.
