Get A Taste Of Durham's Multicultural Food Scene At This Week-Long Fiesta in Oshawa

Oshawa Fiesta Week is back for another seven summer days of incredible eats and dazzling entertainment! The Oshawa Folk Arts Council has organized this event for more than 50 years, and they know how to throw a party.
Each June, various cultural groups in Oshawa open their doors to the community for a week-long celebration—cooking up a storm and decorating their halls. Each pavilion offers traditional fare and you can catch dance performances in the evenings.
Check out our guide below to make the most of this annual festival!
Start The Week Off At The Street Festival
Kick off Fiesta Week by attending the free concert and street festival on Sunday, June 15 from noon to 5 p.m. at Memorial Park in Downtown Oshawa.
This family-friendly afternoon sets the tone for the week by showcasing the sounds, flavours, and traditions that make up Fiesta Week and the multicultural city of Oshawa. Grab a bite to eat from one of the many food vendors, enjoy the live music, and see if you can keep in step with the dancers!
Make A Plan
First things first, you need your passport—your Fiesta Week passport, that is! This can be purchased at any of the pavilions and is your entrance into the pavilions after 4 p.m..
With so much to do (and eat), we suggest you check out the schedule for details on hours and menus. The pavilions set their own hours and not all of them are open all seven days. Each pavilion also has its own menu full of beloved foods unique to the community hosting.
Don’t forget about lunch! Many pavilions are open during the day and you don’t need a Fiesta Week passport to get in.
Cash Is King
Make a pit stop at the bank to take out some cash. Not all of the pavilions accept credit and debit cards and some only accept cash or debit.
Gather The Crew
The more, the merrier when it comes to Fiesta Week! Invite some friends or family to join you for a meal out. This will give you the opportunity to order multiple dishes and get a taste of it all. Together you can order a feast, enjoy live entertainment, and learn about another culture’s traditions.
Heading out solo? Don’t be afraid to chat up people standing in line with you or your neighbouring diners. It’s a celebration of culture after all, and most festival goers will be proud to share the inside scoop on what their favourite dish is or which dessert you should save room for.
Don’t Forget Your Reusable Containers
Save yourself the work of packing a lunch for the next day by ordering another meal to take home with you. Some pavilions charge for containers, so bring your own food storage containers to avoid extra fees and eliminate waste.
