Whitby, Ontario – Following a motion passed on April 29, Durham Regional Council is inviting residents to share their views on Bill 100, the Better Regional Governance Act, 2026, proposed provincial legislation that changes how the Regional Chair is selected.

What: Durham Region has launched a short public survey to gather resident feedback on Bill 100, including whether the Regional Chair should continue to be elected by residents.

Funding available to support food security solutions in Durham region

Whitby, Ontario – In Durham region, one in four households is experiencing food insecurity. To help address this ongoing challenge, the Region of Durham is accepting applications to the Sustainable Food Security Fund.

What: The Sustainable Food Security Fund supports local non-profit organizations with initiatives that promote long-term, sustainable solutions to improve food security for residents. The 2026 funding limit is up to a maximum of $50,000 per approved application.

Lane restrictions on Regional Road 3 in Clarington

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents and businesses of upcoming lane restrictions on Regional Road 3 in the Municipality of Clarington.

When: May 4 to June 30, 2027. Unfavourable weather conditions may impact the work schedule. Construction activities will shut down during the winter period from December 1 until May 1, 2027. A full road closure will be required this summer. Details will be communicated in advance of the closure.

Whitby, Ontario – In support of Durham Vision Zero, The Regional Municipality of Durham has installed a new protected left-turn signal at Regional Highway 2 and Courtice Road in the Municipality of Clarington’s community of Courtice.

Where: The eastbound left-turn lane at Regional Highway 2 and Courtice Road in Courtice.

Whitby, Ontario – May is Rabies Awareness Month, and Durham Region Health Department is reminding educators, health care providers, veterinarians, police services and all residents to report any animal bites or scratches involving humans to the Health Department.
