Durham Region Health Department has received notification that a batch of adult mosquitoes collected in Oshawa have tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV). This is the second mosquito batch in Durham Region to test positive for WNV this season; the first was in Ajax earlier in July.
The Region of Durham is advising residents of lane restrictions on Adelaide Avenue East from Blackthorn Street to Townline Road North in Oshawa until August 31 to safely rehabilitate and resurface the road.
Upcoming lane restrictions from July 29 to August 7 on Brock Road, from approximately 100 metres north to 100 metres south of the Dillingham Road and Clement Road intersection, in the City of Pickering to allow for Elexicon Energy infrastructure placement.
There will be an upcoming westbound lane closure at Bayly Street and Harwood Avenue South from July 27 until 31 as Durham Region completes mandatory concrete repairs to improve safety.
Westbound traffic on Bayly Street will be detoured north onto Harwood Avenue, west on Hunt Street, south on Commercial Avenue to return westbound on Bayly Street.
The pedestrian tunnel on Bowmanville Avenue, between Waverly Road and Hartwell Avenue, will be temporarily closed from July 21 to August 5 for construction work as part of the Bowmanville Avenue reconstruction project. Signs will be posted to guide pedestrians around the closure, and nearby businesses will remain open during the work.
The Region of Durham is investing $8 million to help bring more affordable homes to our community. ACA Housing Corporation will receive $750,000 to build 10 units of affordable rental housing at 82 River Street, Sunderland, in the Township of Brock. Athol Green Co-operative Homes Incorporated will receive $7.25 million to build 96 affordable rental units on the north side of Athol Street West, between Centre Street and Simcoe Street in downtown Oshawa.
The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents in the vicinity of Brock Concession Road 6
of upcoming investigation, drilling, and testing activities associated with the development of additional
municipal water supply wells for the Community of Sunderland from August 2026 to December 2027.
