This Holiday Trail Will Take You On The Ultimate Cocktail Adventure Through Durham Region

Ready to sip your way through Durham Region? The Durham Cocktail Trail is a self-guided journey celebrating local flavour, craft and community. Discover some of the best restaurants and taste one-of-a-kind cocktails crafted just outside Toronto.

From now until January 12, explore local favourites, collect stamps, and earn rewards, all while supporting small businesses across the region. It’s free and easy to join—visit a participating location, enjoy the featured cocktail made with Durham Distillery spirits and scan the QR code on-site to collect a stamp on your trail card. Once you’ve completed six stamps, you’ll earn a $25 gift card to Durham Distillery and entry into a $400 Distiller’s Experience draw. Plus, $1 from every cocktail supports Feed the Need in Durham.

Santa's Little Helper

Santa's Little Helper cocktail from The Springwood in Whitby, Ontario

Enjoy memories of Christmas past with the smell of clove and hints of winter at each sip. This twist on the classic gin sour—made with Durham Distillery’s London Calling Gin—is lovingly sourced from the Springwood owner’s favorite television show, The Simpsons. Named for their family dog who is the family's Christmas gift in the very first episode of the long running series—“Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire”. Order your very own Santa's Little Helper cocktail at The Springwood in Whitby and use the recipe below to recreate this drink at home.

Ingredients:

  • 1.5oz Durham Distillery London Calling Gin

  • 0.5oz Boulard Calvados

  • 1oz cranberry juice

  • 1oz rosemary syrup

  • 0.75oz lemon juice

  • 1 egg white

Dry shake for 20 seconds. Shake with ice for another 20 seconds. Garnish with 3 skewered cranberries and apple slices held together with a clove.

Apple Pie A Lá Mode Martini

Apple Pie A Lá Mode Martini from Port Social in Port Perry, Ontario

This delicious cocktail is a one-of-a-kind drink you won’t find anywhere else—made with Durham Distillery’s Apple Pie Moonshine, topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, and garnished with a slice of dehydrated apple and a sprinkle of cinnamon. Ingredients: 
  • 2oz Durham Distillery Firehouse Spirits Apple Pie Moonshine

  • 1/4 vanilla syrup

  • 1oz milk

  • 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream

  • 1 dehydrated apple

  •  Sprinkle of cinnamon

Add apple pie moonshine, vanilla syrup, milk and ice into a shaker. Shake for 15 to 20 seconds. Add 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream into a coupe glass. Strain over ice cream. Garnish with dehydrated apple slice and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

Doughnut Sugar Espresso Martini

Doughnut Sugar Espresso Martini from Nest at Trail Hub in Uxbridge, Ontario

Indulgence with a playful twist—this bold espresso and silky cream martini is shaken with Durham Distillery Patio Lantern Vodka, lifted by the Distillery’s rich Coffee Liqueur and Treblecock’s Cold Brew, and topped with a tasty doughnut sugar rim!   • 1 oz Durham Distillery Patio Lantern Vodka

  • 1 oz Durham Distillery Firehouse Spirits Coffee Liqueur

  • 1 oz Treblecock Cold Brew

  • 0.5oz Forty Creek original cream

Level tablespoon of donut sugar for rim. In a shaker combine all ingredients with ice. Vigorously shake. Rim coupe glass with doughnut sugar. Double strain into coupe glass. Garnish with one mini doughnut.

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Durham Distillery London Calling Gin

  • 1.5 oz pomegranate juice

  • 1/2 oz rosemary simple syrup

  • 1/2 oz lemon juice

  • Soda water

  • Fresh or frozen cranberries

  • Fresh mint

Add pomegranate juice, gin, simple syrup, and lemon juice to shaker with ice. Shake until chilled. Strain over fresh ice in a Collins glass. Top with soda water. Garnish with fresh cranberries and mint sprig.

Frosted Cranberry Gin Sour

Frosted Cranberry Gin Sour cocktail from Three Six Kitchen in Bowmanville, Ontario

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 oz Durham Distillery Purple Rain Gin

  • 1/2 oz Cointreau

  • 1oz lemon juice

  • 1.5oz spiced cranberry simple syrup

  • 1 fresh egg white

Add gin, cointreau, lemon juice, spiced cranberry simple syrup and egg white to a shaker without ice. Dry shake for 30 seconds. Add ice to the shaker and shake again for 30 seconds. Strain into a rocks glass partially filled with ice. Top with a skewer of sugar-coated cranberries and a dried orange slice.

 

Merry Mojito

Merry Mojito from Chuuk Restaurant in Pickering, Ontario

This very merry cocktail is a play on a classic mojito—altered to add a little Christmas spirit! Made with Durham Distillery’s Cherry White Blackstrap, the use of clarified lime and peppermint oil allows the glitter to shine brightly just like a snow globe.   • 2oz Durham Distillery Firehouse Spirits White Dog Blackstrap
  • 1 oz clarified lime

  • 1 oz simple syrup

  • 12 drops of peppermint oil

  • 1 pinch of edible glitter

Combine all ingredients and shake. Strain into Collins glass with frozen blue spruce.

The Nogtini

The Nogtini cocktail from The Brewer's Pantry in Bowmanville, Ontario

  • 2oz Durham Distillery Firehouse Spirits Apple Pie Moonshine

  • 2oz eggnog

  • Whipped cream

  • 1 dash of nutmeg

Add equal parts Apple Pie Moonshine and eggnog and ice into a shaker, shake for 15 to 20 seconds, strain into a martini glass, top with whipped cream, nutmeg and a candy cane.

  • 2.25oz of Durham Distillery Firehouse Spirits Apple Pie Moonshine

  • 2.25oz of Butterscotch Schnapps

  • Simple syrup, bitters, apple Juice, lemon Juice

Combine all ingredients and shake. Garnish with a cinnamon stick and sugar cinnamon rim.

Lost Our Way to the Izakaya

  • 0.5 oz Lemongrass Chili Gin

  • 0.5 oz Amaro Nonino

  • 1 1/2 oz passionfruit syrup

  • 1 oz fresh squeezed lemon juice

  • Egg white

  • Nori garnish

Blend lemongrass, nori and Japanese chilies, sweeten with passionfruit, a hint of umami, and soften with creamy egg white.

  • 1 oz pear puree
  • 2 oz pear nectar
  • 0.25 oz gingerbread simple syrup

Shake with ice, pour over ice and top with club soda, garnish with candied ginger slice.
