Ride into adventure with Durham Region Transit (DRT)! Whether you’re heading to the beach, exploring trails, catching a show, or discovering the charm of small-town Durham, DRT makes it easy to get there. Make your summer plans a whole lot simpler with bike-friendly buses, and access to local events and attractions. From the waterfront to the theatre, your summer adventure starts at your local bus stop.

Trails by transit: Experience Durham's best nature escapes

Looking for fresh air, beautiful scenery, and a little adventure this summer? Durham Region is packed with incredible trails for walking, running, or cycling and you can reach many of them using DRT.

 How to ride
  • Stroll the scenic Waterfront Trail and boardwalks at Frenchman’s Bay, just steps from Route 100 in Pickering.

  • Take Route 916 to the Duffins Trail System or take Route 224 to walk along Ajax’s central waterfront.

  • Explore quiet paths through Lynde Shores Conservation Area or cycle the Waterfront Trail near Port Whitby via Route 917.

  • Take Route 403 or 901 for a peaceful walk along the Joseph Kolodzie Oshawa Creek Bike Path all the way to Lakeview Park.

  • Enjoy forested paths and open spaces on the Bowmanville Valley Trails, perfect for a nature break and steps away from Route 502.

  • Hike rolling hills and looped trails at the Uxbridge Countryside Preserve (Route 605) or stroll the lakeside paths near Beaverton Harbour (Route 618).

 Trip tip
You can bring your bike on the bus for free. All DRT vehicles are bike-rack equipped.

Waterfront adventures: Catch a ride to the lakeside

DRT extends summer service to popular waterfront destinations across Durham, making it easier than ever to enjoy sunny days and lakeside adventures.

 How to ride
  • Stroll along the shores of Lake Scugog, browse local shops, and enjoy waterside dining in this vibrant lakeside destination. Get there with Route 605.
  • Pack a picnic and soak up the charm of Beaverton Harbour, where marina views and summer festivals make for a perfect day trip. Ride Route 618.

  • Take in the breeze, explore the boardwalk, and wander the Waterfront Trail at Frenchman’s Bay—just hop on Route 100.

  • Relax by the water at Port Whitby Marina or explore the Waterfront Trail along Lake Ontario, with parks, picnic areas, and stunning views by riding Route 917.

  • Spend the day at Lakeview Park in Oshawa, where lakefront trails, sandy beaches, and shaded picnic spots make it a go-to summer escape. Accessible by Route 403 or 901.

Small town travel: Discover our charming downtowns

From quaint main streets and artisan shops to beautiful trails and waterfronts, Durham Region’s small towns have plenty to offer. And guess what? You can visit all of them using DRT.

 How to ride
  • Ride Route 905 to Uxbridge, where you’ll find the historic downtown, cafés, and scenic trails like the Uxbridge Countryside Preserve just a short walk away.
  • Catch Route 507 on weekdays to Newcastle and explore local shops or bike your way to nearby greenspaces like Soper Creek Conservation Area.

  • Take Route 905 or 618 to Port Perry and enjoy a relaxed walk-through town or unwind by the water.

  • Hop on Route 618 to Beaverton for easy access to lakeside views, cozy eateries, and marina-front strolls.

Arts and culture: Catch the bus and a show

Looking for a night out or a dose of local culture? From historic theatres to buzzing event venues, DRT can take you there—no parking, no stress. Whether you're into live music, theatre, comedy, or community events, these cultural hotspots are all accessible by transit.

 How to ride
  • Routes 900, 901 and 902 take you right into downtown Oshawa, where you can catch everything from concerts to comedy at the Biltmore Theatre, Tribute Communities Centre, Regent Theatre, and BOND ST Event Centre.
  • Hop on Route 900 to explore Pickering Village and check out a show at the St. Francis Centre—a restored heritage venue at the heart of Ajax’s arts scene.

  • Ride Route 905 directly to Town Hall 1873 in Port Perry, where no transfers or extra steps are needed. This historic venue continues to bring theatre, music, and community together under one roof.

  •  Heading to Uxbridge? Route 905 gets you to the Uxbridge Music Hall, a downtown landmark with rich history and top-tier acoustics for live performances.

 Trip tip
The Tribute Communities Centre is also home to the Ontario Hockey League’s Oshawa Generals; this winter catch a game by taking DRT and not worry about finding parking.

A farm in the city: Durham College Urban Farm, Ajax

It’s not every day you find a working farm in the heart of the city. Durham College’s Urban Farm in Ajax is a hands-on, community-focused space where sustainability meets innovation.

 How to ride
Take DRT Route 216,or 916 if travelling from the east or west, to Rossland Road and Harwood Avenue. The farm is a short walk from the stop.
 Trip tip

Visit on Thursdays from 2 to 5p.m. for their on-farm market to buy fresh produce. You can also meet the team, take a tour of the farm and chat about programming.

Bonus: Food grown here supports local food banks, culinary students, and community markets, making your visit both impactful and inspiring.
