As a writer and mother inspired by Lucy Maud Montgomery—who is best known for her novel “Anne of Green Gables ”—my visit to Leaskdale, Ontario, was a deeply personal journey. Leaskdale, a small village 10 minutes outside Uxbridge, holds a significant place in Montgomery's life and work.

And it should come as no surprise that they can be found in Chef Alex Page’s recipes and on his table every single day they are in season. I often find myself looking for reasons to escape the neverending “buzz” of my life in busy Toronto and explore incredible nature destinations in neighbouring Durham Region.
Second Marsh in Oshawa was recently brought to my attention as somewhere with great trails, beautiful landscapes, and a wonderful place to spot wildlife—particularly birds.
