A Child & Youth Advocacy Centre (CYAC) is a child-focused centre in which multi-disciplinary teams provide coordinated, seamless, interdisciplinary services to children and youth who have experienced abuse or maltreatment. CYACs aim to provide trauma-responsive, culturally safe and accessible services that are child and family centred. Through a local partnership collaborative consisting of local community and government agencies, the development of a non- profit Durham CYAC is underway that will bring together all professionals (e.g., police, health, victim services, child protection) involved in child abuse cases to reduce the child’s trauma in repeatedly telling their experience of abuse.
As a community collaborative and partnership, the co-development of a fundraising plan that consists of innovative marketing strategies for the Durham CYAC with our local community partners is key to support the development and sustainability of this important work.
