New protected left-turn signals in Clarington and Oshawa

In support of Durham Vision Zero, The Regional Municipality of Durham is installing new protected left-turn signals at two intersections in the City of Oshawa and Municipality of Clarington.

Protected left-turn signals use a dedicated green arrow to allow drivers to turn left only when oncoming traffic is stopped. By reducing the risk of collisions between left-turning and oncoming vehicles, these signals help improve safety at intersections.

Lane restrictions and temporary lane closures on Westney Road North in Ajax

Upcoming lane restrictions from October 14 to 16 on Westney Road North (Regional Road 31) in the Town of Ajax. Lane restrictions will be in place for the safe replacement of a culvert, ditching improvements and paving work. As construction progresses, temporary lane closures will be required to complete the final asphalt surface.  One lane will remain open at all times with traffic control personnel in place to direct traffic.

Land Acknowledgement

The Region of Durham exists on lands that the Michi Saagiig Anishinaabeg inhabited for thousands of years prior to European colonization. These lands are the traditional and treaty territories of the Nations covered under the Williams Treaties, including the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation, Alderville First Nation, Hiawatha First Nation, Curve Lake First Nation, and the Chippewa Nations of Georgina Island, Beausoleil and Rama.

We honour, recognize, and respect Indigenous Peoples as rights holders and stewards of the lands and waters on which we have the privilege to live. In our efforts towards reconciliation, we continue to build and strengthen relationships with First Nations, as well as the large Métis communities and growing Inuit communities here in Durham. We commit to learning from Indigenous values and knowledge, building opportunities for collaboration, and recognizing that we are all connected.
