In Canada, some reports estimate that 5.8 million people live in poverty. One of the ways our community in Durham Region is assisting those living in poverty is through the delivery of 20 volunteer tax clinics at local agencies. Decreasing the Impact of Seniors in Isolation in Durham Region

Social isolation in seniors is a growing issue in Durham Region. The goal for this project was to develop a solution that the Region could apply to eliminating social isolation in Seniors, which involved creating ways to promote awareness and education on the barriers seniors in the community face when experiencing social isolation.

What effect does decommissioning a nuclear facility have on the host community? How have these communities been engaged and responded during the process? The purpose of this project was to outline how decommissioning of nuclear facilities around the world has affected their local communities, and led to recommendations for how these findings and best practices can be applied to Durham Region.
Integrated Services: Community Hub Model for Homelessness Supports

The purpose of this project was to conduct research to support the Community Hub Working Group under the Health, Homelessness and Housing (H3) Committee that will help evaluate the effectiveness of homelessness hubs. The results provided the homelessness support team with research on best practices for homelessness hub models and benchmarks to measure the success of current hubs.
