Whitby, Ontario - Durham Region Health Department has started testing waters at designated public beaches throughout the Region as part of the 2020 Beach Monitoring Program. Test results for the week of June 19 indicate that no beaches have been posted as unsafe for swimming due to elevated bacteria levels; however, five area beaches have been closed by the local municipalities and were not tested by the Health Department. Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham advises residents of lane restrictions on Ritson Road North (Regional Road 16) in the City of Oshawa.
When: Ongoing until August 10. Unfavourable weather conditions may influence the work schedule.
Where: Ritson Road North from Adelaide Avenue (Regional Road 58) to Rossland Road (Regional Road 28) in Oshawa.

Patio season opens in Durham; Region expediting Road Occupancy Permits for patio expansions

Whitby, Ontario – Today, the Region of Durham moves into Stage 2 of the provincial government’s re-opening plan. As part of this stage, restaurants may open patios—with the option to expand patios on a sidewalk and/or curb/parking lane—in addition to providing take out and/or delivery service.

Drive safely and slow down in construction zones

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is reminding drivers to slow down and proceed with caution through construction zones or areas where workers are present.
All construction zones or areas marked for roadside work in Durham Region are blocked off by pylons, measured to meet provincial standards.
