Bike Month is one of the largest celebrations of biking in Canada, bringing people together all month long at hundreds of events across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area. The Region of Durham and its local municipal partners invite you to get out and (re)discover the joys of cycling with fun activities happening across Durham all month long!

Events

All month long: Bike Month Bingo (Region of Durham)

Play Bike Month Bingo for a chance to WIN one of the following prizes:       

  1. A $100 gift certificate to Northern Cycle - one prize available.
  2. A $50 e-gift card (choose from a list of select businesses) - three prizes available.
  3. A Durham Bike Month Prize Pack - four prizes available.

Every bingo square has a fun bike-related activity that will keep you active. There’s so much you can do on your bike during Bike Month! Download your bingo card and you’ll be shouting “Bingo!” in no time.

How to participate

Players complete the tasks found in the squares of the bingo card. Once a player has completed all of the tasks in a row (across, up and down or diagonally), they can claim bingo by posting a photo of their bingo card on social media. Posts must tag @RegionofDurham and use the #CycleDurham hashtag. Players who don’t want to use social media can send a photo of the card to activetransportation@durham.ca. Bingo can be claimed each time a row is completed.

Bonus: Share photos of your completed tasks (e.g., your bicycle near a beautiful lake) for additional chances to win. Each individual photo counts as one extra entry into the prize draw, to a maximum of five extra entries.

Waiver

PARTICIPANTS OF THE BIKE MONTH BINGO CONTEST BEAR FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR OWN SAFETY

The Bike Month Bingo Contest is available as part of Bike Month. Participants are solely responsible for the risks associated with participating in the Bike Month Bingo Contest. Participants are responsible for selecting their own route and their own safety. The Regional Municipality of Durham makes no warranties of any kind with respect to the Bike Month Bingo Contest or the safe condition of any road, route, trail or facility whatsoever Participants use as part of the Bike Month Bingo Contest. Cyclists are reminded that they must comply with the Highway Traffic Act and are strongly recommended to always use safety equipment when cycling. Participants agree to abide by all governmental regulations pertaining to health and safety, particularly with respect to physical distancing. 

All month long: Region-Wide Cycling Contest (Region of Durham)

Durham Region challenges you to get outside and get active while exploring the region by bike. Every trip you log via our SmartCommute.ca app throughout the month of June counts as one entry into the prize draw. There are eight prizes to be won:

  1. A $100 gift certificate to Northern Cycle - one prize available.
  2. A $50 e-gift card (choose from a list of select businesses) - three prizes available.
  3. A Durham Bike Month Prize Pack - four prizes available.

How to participate

Download the free SmartCommute.ca app and create a free account and profile. Log at least one trip by bike using the app during the month of June. Any trip by bike counts! Each trip you log in the app enters you into the prize draw for a chance to win one of the following prizes:

May 28: Pedal for Patients (Lakeridge Health Foundation and Region of Durham)

This new event in partnership with The Regional Municipality of Durham will host hundreds of riders, volunteers and supporters with one common goal: raise funds for cancer care at Lakeridge Health. May 29: Casual Road Bike Ride (Uxbridge Cycling Club)

In celebration of Ontario’s designation of June as Bike Month and Ontario Cycling Association’s (OCA) Women’s Week, the Uxbridge Cycling Club (UCC) will host a week-long open house from Monday, May 29 to Sunday, June 4, 2023 and a special event on Saturday, June 3, 2023.  Normally restricted to Ontario Cycling Association (OCA) members only, every ride in our calendar (below) will be open to all non-OCA cyclists (18 years or older) to try, upon signing a waiver.  Our UCC members will welcome you and give you a taste of club life.

The Casual Road Bike Ride will begin at 6 pm on May 29th at Uxbridge Arena. Learn more here: Open House (uxbridgecycling.com)

May 30: Mountain Bike Ride (Uxbridge Cycling Club)

In celebration of Ontario’s designation of June as Bike Month and Ontario Cycling Association’s (OCA) Women’s Week, the Uxbridge Cycling Club (UCC) will host a week-long open house from Monday, May 29 to Sunday, June 4, 2023 and a special event on Saturday, June 3, 2023.  Normally restricted to Ontario Cycling Association (OCA) members only, every ride in our calendar (below) will be open to all non-OCA cyclists (18 years or older) to try, upon signing a waiver.  Our UCC members will welcome you and give you a taste of club life.

The Mountain Bike Ride will explore Durham Forest trails over 1-2 hours on Tuesday, May 30, starting at 7 pm. Learn more here: Open House (uxbridgecycling.com)

June 3: Special Event (Uxbridge Cycling Club)

Saturday, June 3, 2023 will be a special day in which several different rides will occur in parallel (road social/intervals, gravel and mountain bike), ending with an informal tire change demo and practice along with light refreshments. In recognition of our women members and the Ontario Cycling Association Women’s Week, we welcome and encourage any new or experienced women riders to participate in any one of these events. June 3 and 5: Oshawa Historical Ride (City of Oshawa)

City of Oshawa is organizing two Historical Rides starting at Lakeview Park and encompassing Ed Broadbent Park, 2nd Marsh, Old Tannery and the Knob Hill farms location. The first Oshawa Historical Ride will take place on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 3:00 pm; and the second historical ride will take place on Monday, June 5, 2023 at 5:00 pm.

June 4: Sun Social Group Ride (Uxbridge Cycling Club)

June 11: Bike for Bones (Ajax Pickering Hospital Foundation)

Bike for Bones 2023 is the Ajax Pickering Hospital Foundation’s 2nd annual premium biking event in Durham Region that aims to create some active fun, raise funds, and strengthen our community bonds. Learn more and register here: Bike for Bones 2023 | aphfoundation

June 17: Oshawa City Council, City Staff and Citizen Ride (City of Oshawa)

The Oshawa City Council, City Staff and Citizen Ride will start at City Hall on June 17 at 11 am. More information to come.

June 25-July 2: Trailfest and Trailfest on the GO (Town of Ajax)

Get outdoors and stay active safely with Trailfest! A highly anticipated and annual event, Trailfest provides opportunities for residents to explore Ajax’s safe and connected trail system by foot, bike or wheelchair/scooter. Learn more and register here: 2023 Trailfest Registration - Ajax
