Mosquitoes test positive for West Nile virus in Uxbridge

Whitby, Ontario – Durham Region Health Department has received notification that adult mosquitoes in Uxbridge have tested positive for West Nile virus (WNv) disease. There have now been 26 mosquito batches in Durham Region that have tested positive for the virus this season including five in Clarington, nine in Oshawa, four in Ajax, six in Pickering, one in Whitby and one in Uxbridge.

Building a healthier future: Durham Region commits $750K to food security and poverty initiatives

Whitby, Ontario – In Durham Region, one in four households experiences food insecurity, and approximately 5.2 per cent of residents live in poverty. To promote wellness and help reduce poverty, Regional Council approved a $750,000 investment in local non-profit organizations this year.
