Pedestrian crossovers make it safer and easier for pedestrians to cross the street. These locations are designated using special pavement markings, specific signage and sometimes lights.

Drivers, pedestrians and cyclists all have a responsibility to help everyone to safely navigate pedestrian crossovers.

Stop and look! Make sure the way is clear before proceeding through stop signs

Drivers are reminded to come to a complete stop at stop signs and make sure the road and sidewalk is clear in both directions before proceeding.

Automated speed enforcement improving road safety

Durham Region has Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) cameras in some school zones and designated Community Safety Zones on Regional Roads.

As part of the Durham Vision Zero Strategic Road Safety Action Plan, roundabouts have been installed at various locations across Durham Region in place of traffic control signals.
